A gentle yoga class which focuses on movements for people with Osteoporosis, Osteopenia and/or poor posture alignment is held Friday mornings from 10:45 a.m. - 12:00 Noon at Unity Yoga. All the benefits of yoga will be experienced: enhancing flexibility and balance, increasing strength, and improving posture through gentle stretching. This class is based on the book "WALK TALL--An Exercise Program for the Prevention and Treatment of Osteoporosis" by Sara Meeks. Sara Meeks has been a physical therapist and a yoga teacher for over 25 years. Cynthia Mathis, a Registered Yoga Teacher, who has studied with Sara Meeks, is teaching this class. No previous yoga experience is necessary.Although some people are at more risk than others are, Osteoporosis can attack all ages, ethnic groups, and genders. The good news is that Osteoporosis can usually be prevented; and, if you already have it, it can be treated. It is never too late, or too early, to learn simple techniques to strengthen your back muscles and stretch your entire body to restore normal body alignment. Weight bearing movements are also included in the class.
